The Professional Development Of A Teacher - 1631 Words
As an aspiring teacher I feel that it is extremely important to recognise that good teaching methods have a significant positive impact on how students lean. It is crucial to understand that a good teacher does not just simply require advanced skills and knowledge in their subject area but is essential that we are good role models to pupils, as well as promoting a good example of moral and ethical and positive attitudes. ââ¬Å"In addition to knowing what and knowing how, teachers must also be competent in knowing how and knowing whenâ⬠(Calderhead and Shorrock 1997) The professional development of a teacher is a lifelong process beginning with initial teacher training and continuing throughout the entire career of a teacher. In basic terms teacher development is described as continuous teacher training. However, I find the following description of the professional development of a teacher much more satisfying. ââ¬Å"The professional growth a teacher achieves as a result of gaining increased experience and examining his or her teaching systematically.â⬠(Glathorn, 1995, page 41) Glathorn describes the development of a teacher on a much deeper level and upon reading his description of teacher development I feel that it evokes a profounder meaning and also highlights The importance of evaluation which is one of the four key aspects I have chosen to discuss. I believe that evaluation is an extremely important aspect in relation to the professional development of a teacher.
